Install httping using yum

The question – I want to install the package httping on my Linux CentOS box (for web server latency and throughput measurement). When I type in httping on my shell, it says command not found. When I try to install it using yum install httping, yum is unable to find the package httping. How do I fix this?

Please follow these two steps to install httping:

1) Install or Upgrade RPM Forge

The solution to this problem is to install the latest version of RPMForge.

To find the rpm file for the latest version of RPM Forge, use this page. Once you open the page, search for “rpmforge” on the page. Then choose the release file that has the highest number.

For example, at this time, the latest version is rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.i686.rpm.

Download the file and install it.

wget http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el6/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.i686.rpm
rpm -Uvh rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.i686.rpm

This will install the latest version of RPM Forge. RPM forge is a database of thousands of modules and packages which yum uses to install packages. By upgrading the RPM Forge database, you have just included httping in the list of packages that yum knows about!

root@server# wget http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el6/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.5.3-1.el6.rf.i686.rpm

2) Install httping using yum

Now that you have installed the latest version of RPM Forge, yum should be able to find the package httping:

yum install httping

This will output something like the following on a SSH shell or a local terminal:

root@server# yum install httping
